“Chosen are those artists who penetrate the region of the secret place where primeval power nurtures all evolution." It seems to me that Ron Atkin has visited that place. John Lane Author of The Living Tree Art and The Sacred.

The doorway to the past and the future

The following interview (very small extract) with RA was taken by the late John Lane an artist, a worldwide art lecturer and author of 10 books on art. They have been constructed from tape recordings. At the time John was a trustee at the.Dartington Hall in South Devon England.

"We can exist without art, but we cannot live without it."

JL: Can you tell me when you started painting? - At what age?

RA: Yes, when I was twelve, the person that really inspired me to paint, was my father. My mother had been shopping and had brought back some oranges in a paper bag. On this particular evening I was painting in a sketch book at the table, he picked up the empty paper bag and said "come and look at this paper bag", he pointed out the colours in the white of the bag and it was such a revelation - like a cave full of jewels, then from that day I was hooked on painting.

This 7ft x 5ft watercolour (Exhibited in Royal Academy 1975) is an example John of what I mean. It was painted 40 years

before the Cern photo was taken.)

This watercolour 5ftx 4ft is another example and was hung in the same room at the RA

One critic wrote - "One of three, best in RA show out of 1,300"
